Video Transcript Step 4 - Working Out Your Finances
What fees can you expect to pay when entering an aged care home? Well aged care is now means tested and the amount you can be asked to contribute is decided by the government, based on an assessment of your income and assets. This includes the family home.
Full pensioners with little wealth will pay little, so nobody misses out, but everybody else has to pay their share. There are now four types of fees and costs, the basic daily fee, the means tested care fee, the accommodation cost and any additional fees the home has or services you want.
You must have your income and assets assessed by the government before moving into an aged care home. It requires completing the Combined Assets and Income Assessment form that has over 130 detailed questions. You can download it here at agedcare101.com.au or by calling the Government’s My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.
A quick point - if there is still someone living in a family home, it may not be counted as an asset. Paying an accommodation contribution? There are three convenient payment choices at your fingertips.
Our strong advice is to invest the time to understand all the steps laid out here at agedcare101, where aged care is made easy.
